MAJURO – The Republic of the Marshall Islands continues to strengthen its border security capabilities through its enduring partnership with Australia. Following the successful bilateral talks held last year, the Division of Immigration is working closely with Australian counterparts to enhance maritime surveillance and border management systems.
This collaboration focuses on combating transnational crime, illegal fishing, and irregular migration. The arrival of new Guardian-class patrol boats has significantly bolstered our ability to monitor the RMI’s vast Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
“Our partnership with Australia is not just about equipment; it is about training and information sharing,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. “These joint efforts ensure that our borders remain open to legitimate travel and trade while being securely closed to illegal activities.”
Future initiatives for 2026 include advanced training workshops for immigration officers on document fraud detection and the modernization of our seaport entry processing.
