Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where is the Immigration Office located?

The main headquarters is located in the Mako Building in Delap, Majuro. We also have a sub-office on Ebeye Island at the Local Government Building.

What are your operating hours?

  • General Inquiries & Applications: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

  • Cashier (Payments): Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM.

  • Note: We are closed on all RMI National Holidays and weekends.

Do I need an appointment to visit the office?

Appointments are not required for general inquiries or application drop-offs. However, if you are applying for Citizenship or require a meeting with the Director, we recommend calling ahead to schedule a time.

How long does it take to process a new passport?

Standard processing time is approximately 4–6 weeks. We strongly advise against booking travel until you have your physical passport in hand.

Can I pay an extra fee to get my passport faster?

Yes, an Expedite Fee of $50 is available, but it is restricted to genuine emergencies (medical referrals or family emergencies) requiring travel within 7 days. Proof of emergency (e.g., doctor’s letter) is required.

How do I check the status of my application?

Please call our Passport Unit at (692) 625-8633  or email passports@rmiimmigration.org. You must provide the Application Receipt Number (found on your yellow payment slip) for us to track your document.

Do I need a visa to visit the Marshall Islands?

Citizens of the US, FSM, and Palau do not need a visa (COFA status). Citizens of many other countries (e.g., EU, UK, Australia, Japan) are eligible for a Visa on Arrival (30 days). Please check the “Visa Resources” page for the full list of eligible countries.

My 30-day visitor visa is expiring. Can I extend it?

Yes. You must visit the Immigration Office before your current visa expires. You will need to fill out an extension form and pay the required fee. Overstaying your visa is a serious offense.
