MAJURO – The RMI Division of Immigration reminds the public that the enhanced passport application requirements introduced last year remain in full effect for all 2026 travel. To combat identity theft and ensure the integrity of the Marshallese passport, all applicants—whether applying for the first time or renewing—must strictly adhere to the updated documentation protocols.

Applicants are reminded that a clear copy of their Social Security Card is mandatory for every application. Incomplete applications missing this critical identity verification document will be returned immediately, resulting in processing delays.

The Division also wishes to clarify the criteria for the $50 Expedite Fee. This service is exclusively reserved for genuine emergencies. Approval for expedited processing is granted only for:

  1. Life-or-death family emergencies (requiring a death certificate).
  2. Urgent medical referrals (requiring an official letter from a medical professional on hospital letterhead).

“We ask for the public’s cooperation in submitting complete applications well in advance of planned travel,” stated Immigration Director Mercyba Balos. “These measures are vital for maintaining the global standing and security of our travel documents.”
